William is second in line of succession, after his father Prince Charles who will be crowned King after The Queen leaves the crown and passes it down.
This explains why the big occasion is heartbreaking and bittersweet for William, as he will be mourning the loss of his father when he simultaneously becomes King.
But, before any of this can actually occur, The Queen will have to pass the throne to Prince Charles. After recently celebrating 70 years on the throne, no one can be certain when the change of monarch will take place.

Prince William also revealed the main thing that keeps him up at night. He spoke on the podcast Outrage + Optimism in 2020 to talk about The Earthshot Prize, which will see £50 million paid out over the next decade to tackle environmental issues.
During the episode, he shared details that he gets “outraged by the inaction” on climate change. To be fair – it is a rather relatable concern in our current world especially with the soaring temperatures right now.
He said: “That’s probably a bit of a cliché but that is what I get most troubled about. Especially as I’m in a position of responsibility if you like, or leadership. I feel I can do a lot more if given that ability.
“So therefore, I don’t understand why those who have the levers, don’t. I think that’s what really upsets me and keeps me awake at night.”
